It was a Sunday afternoon, cold, when Astle’s Practice Manager Sally Wileman looked across at the tired arches of the Burton Bridge. Accompanied by her husband, surrounded by the idyllic chill, what caught her attention the most were the four, five – perhaps more – shapes huddled beneath the arches. Grubby sleeping bags, now a part of the scenery, but with no place to retreat from it. Real people without a home.
For the fourth year in a row, we’re doing our best to help those who’ve fallen on hard times. Feed our Families is a campaign run by the Burton Mail, encouraging those in the community to help local food banks feed those who need it. By contributing anything from a single tin to a large food order, our 40 members of staff will be providing food to organisations who can distribute it to those forgotten families. Those organisations are South Derbyshire CVS, The Eaton Foundation, The Salvation Army in Burton and Burton’s branch of the YMCA.
Our final donations will be collected on Monday 11th December. If you would like to donate, Follow us to keep updated with how much we contribute and see the full effects of the generous campaign.
We’re very proud to be continual supporters of charities in Burton and this year we’ve gotten involved in Wear It Pink, Macmillan Cancer Support, St. Giles Hospice and contributed to the YMCA in Burton. With the festive period upon us and another chance for reflection, we hope you might be persuaded to do the same.
We’re very pleased with the kind donations received this year for Feed our Families. The Astle Paterson team have donated some much needed food for those who are in need of a helping hand at this difficult time of year.
