A Business Case for Diversity and Inclusion in Law Firms

Following the publication of Astle Paterson’s Equality & Diversity data, the Law Society has published its Business Case for ‘Diversity and Inclusion in Law Firms.’

In its summary of the report, the Law Society reasons “why law firms should bother about diversity and inclusion” and concludes it is because:-

  • “It’s the law: legislation and regulation.
  • The client base is changing.
  • The profile of the profession is changing.
  • Benefits of good diversity and inclusion policies can mean:
    • meeting your legal and regulatory equality duties
    • access to a wider recruitment pool
    • retaining staff
    • a flexible and responsive workforce”

After reading the Law Society report, Liam O’Shea, Director at Astle Paterson said “the make up of Astle Paterson reflects the ever changing landscape of the legal profession.   Our lawyers and support staff are from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.   You do not have to look any further than the Boardroom [of the six Directors at Astle Paterson, three are women] to see that it is our policy of recruiting strong candidates, based on their merits and abilities, that has made Astle Paterson into a leading law firm in Staffordshire.”
