The Pathfinder Pilot in the Birmingham Family Courts
The Pathfinder Pilot scheme, launched in Birmingham Family Courts on 28th May 2024, aims to streamline private children’s proceedings by making them faster, easier, and less adversarial. A key feature of this pilot is the early involvement of CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service), which conducts initial investigations and provides advice to the court on how to proceed.
The Pathfinder Pilot’s core objectives are threefold: to enhance efficiency by streamlining and accelerating case processing, to amplify the child’s voice in proceedings, and to reduce adversarial confrontations wherever feasible.
