The Gender Pay Gap Regulations: Highlighting the difference in pay between the sexes

Deborah Pegg, Solicitor in both Astle Paterson’s Media, Entertainment, TV & Film and Commercial departments discusses the effect of The Gender Pay Gap Regulations.

Deborah said, “The Gender Pay Gap Regulations came into force on 6th April 2017 and require any employer with over 250 employees to publish a ‘snapshot’ of certain pay data, which they have obtained over a 12 month period.

The aim of the Regulations is to highlight any differences between the average pay of male and female employees of larger companies or groups.”

Deborah continued, “The information required to be published relates to all ‘relevant employees’ within the organisation and includes apprentices and also, potentially, some casual workers and contractors.”

Deborah concluded, “The first reporting date is next year, 6th  April 2018, but companies affected by the new legislation should considering the requirements now in terms of, first, what information will need to be reported; and secondly, preventing possible reputational issues arising from their publication of the data.”

At Astle Paterson we have a number of highly experienced and knowledgeable commercial minded Solicitors on hand to help your business meet its legal obligations.
