The government is now offering refunds to those who applied to register lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017. The refund is available to those who made the power of attorney in England and Wales.
The decision comes as, during that period, the cost of registration has been deemed too high in comparison to the operating costs of the Office of the Public Guardian. As the Ministry of Justice reduced the application fee from April 2017, those who applied before that date can be compensated.
The amount refunded will depend on the date you applied, and ranges from £34-£54. Find full details and make a claim for your refund here. It takes about 10 minutes online or via phone call (0300 456 0300 option 6).
