Deborah Pegg, Astle Paterson’s specialist lawyer for Media, TV and Film attended the Film MarketPlace Birmingham last week, for the second year, to chat to film makers about the legal challenges of bringing their art to the big screen. The event, put together by The Producer’s Forum and hosted by the opulent Park Regis Hotel, has become a much sought-after opportunity for filmmakers to meet up with senior funders, financiers and commissioners from the industry (such as Creativity Capital, Moviehouse and the BFI) to pitch their projects face to face.
Deborah was there as part of the growing ‘fringe’ of film and TV experts, which included Sindy Campbell of Film Birmingham and members of the London Film School. She answered questions from filmmakers and provided them with much valued insight on all the legal aspects of filmmaking.
New for this year was an evening soiree at which the attendees and experts were joined by other key players from the West Midlands film community such as Kevin McDonagh and Dean Williams from the Birmingham Film Festival, which takes place 23rd-26th November.
Deborah’s career has spanned nearly two decades in the media and film industry, and her passion for film has seen her credited for legal work on pictures such as the Howard Mark’s biopic Mr Nice as well as Dread (starring Endeavour’s Shaun Evans), Boogie Woogie (starring amongst others Gillian Anderson and Christopher Lee) and the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Palme d’Or nominated We Need to Talk About Kevin (the latter earning her the title of ‘Best Supporting Lawyer’ in ‘The Times’ in 2011).
