What happens to your internet accounts
when you die ?
To save costs fewer businesses now forward paper statements to the account holder, offering reduced bills if you are notified by email that your statement is available online. More and more people access their bank statements and utility bills online rather than receiving paper statements.
In the past, on a person’s death the family would be able to locate the deceased’s account details by finding their passbooks, bank statements and generally by going through their post.
On your death would your loved ones be able to find details of your assets?
Do you keep information on your computer which your family will need to access on your death? Does your family know where to find your passwords so that they can access your accounts on your computer?
You may regularly change your bank/building society accounts depending on current interest rates, or buy and sell shares on a regular basis through the internet.
Do you keep an up-to-date list of your assets on your computer?
Unless an up-to-date record is kept of your assets your family may not be able to obtain details on your death. If no one knows about your internet accounts thousands of pounds could be unaccounted for and your family may suffer financially as a result.
If you would like to discuss the situation regarding your online accounts with us to ensure provisions are made upon your death for your accounts and your password details please contact Mrs. Helen Vorley on 01283 531366.
