Stafford Knot golf competition 2010
A total of 28 players took part in this year’s competition over 3 rounds at Bloxwich, Trentham and Branston. Our competition format gives us individual and team winners at each venue. Then the main prize is the Stafford Knot Trophy for the player with the best 2 scores from the 3 events.
This was our first visit to Bloxwich and probably not the last as they looked after us very well indeed. The winner at Bloxwich was Kevin Doherty with 38 points but he was not able to repeat this form in later rounds. Team winners were Derek Keatley, Mick Powell and Kevin Doherty.
In August we revisited Trentham which is a favourite course with many of the players. After a deluge over the last 3 holes the worthy winner was John Stevenson with 35 points. He was unable to play at Branston so he could not capitalise on his strong position.

Our finals day at Branston was supported by 20 players and there was some formidable scores notably by Robert Hives-34, Richard Darby-35 and Mike Gentles-35. However the winner with 37 points was the ever-consistent Steve Wilcox. His 2 best scores gave him a Stafford Knot winning score of 68 points.
He was also in the winning team alongside Richard Darby and Martin Astle.
We hope that you all enjoyed this year’s competition and camaraderie. We will be in touch again in the New Year with next year’s competition details.
